The Marriage Builder (affiliate link) is one of those books that I wish were written for a broader audience. It contains important truth for every person, married or single, that is vital for every relationship, marriage or otherwise. I read it years ago, and it made a huge impact on my relationships as I learned to base my needs for security and significance in Jesus, rather than in people.
In it, Crabb (one of my favorite authors) shows how our deepest needs — security and significance — can’t be satisfied by a marriage partner or by any person, for that matter. Only Jesus can satisfy those needs, and it is only after we have those needs met we can have healthy relationships with others.
It’s well worth the read, whether you are married or not. More importantly than improving your relationships with others, it will bring you rich satisfaction and fulfillment as you develop a close relationship with Jesus and allow Him to fill the deepest needs and desires of your heart.
