Written by a Christian neuroscientist, Switch On Your Brain (affiliate link) is a fascinating read that shows how science has caught up with such Scripture as Proverbs 23:7 (“as he thinks in his heart, so is he”) and Romans 12:2 (“be transformed by the renewing of your mind”).
Dr. Leaf has studied the mind-body connection since the early 1980s. She conducted some of the initial research on neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways and connections based on changes in our thinking. These, in turn, affect changes in our behavior and in our emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. With every repetition of a thought or emotion, either positive or negative, we reinforce a neural pathway which in turn affects us positively or negatively.
Our thoughts DO matter!
No wonder Scripture also says, “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable—if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things” (Philippians 4:8 CSB) and “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
