Written by a Christian neuroscientist, Switch On Your Brain is a fascinating read that shows how science has caught up with Scripture such as “as he thinks in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7 NKJV) and “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2 NIV).
Dr. Leaf has studied the mind-body connection since the early 1980s. She conducted some of the initial research on neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to form new neural pathways and connections based on changes in our thinking. These affect changes in our behavior and in our emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being.
With every repetition of a thought or emotion, either positive or negative, we reinforce a neural pathway that affects us positively or negatively.
Our thoughts do matter!
No wonder Scripture also says, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8 NIV) and “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV).
