As I was watching the British royal wedding of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, an American citizen, I was struck by the significance of the prince’s vow to his non-royal bride: “all that I am I give to you, and all that I have I share with you.”
Position, rank, esteem, privileges, property, and wealth in abundance — all conveyed to this “common” woman from another country, simply because he loves her.
We, too, have a royal Bridegroom who has conveyed upon us all that He is and all that He has. When we put our faith in Jesus, the divine Prince, and Heir of the Most High God, we become His bride and therefore co-heirs with Him — simply because He loves us! All that Jesus is He gives to us, and all that He has He shares with us. And all that Jesus is and all that He has is far, far greater and far, far more than that of any earthly royalty!
And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance].
Romans 8:17, Amplified Bible
If you watched the royal wedding, you probably couldn’t help but notice the gracious and loving favor Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, bestowed on his son’s bride, welcoming her into the family. In ways far greater and deeper and broader, though, is the grace, love, favor, and acceptance Jesus’ Heavenly Father — the Most High God — bestows on us. Not only does He become our Heavenly Father, too, He was our Creator. His intricate love for us goes back even further than the time we entered into a relationship with His Son, Jesus.
All earthly symbolism breaks down at certain points, but the truth in this one remains: all that Jesus is He gives to us, and all that He has He shares with us!
Move That Mountain
Speaking of symbolism and inheritance, I was thinking this morning of a certain symbolic mountain in my life and how Jesus told His disciples that if they had faith the size of a mustard seed (which is very tiny), they could command a mountain to move, and it would.
For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, “Move from here to there,” and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
Jesus in Matthew 17:20
I’m pretty sure the type of mountain Jesus was referring to is also of the symbolic kind. The seemingly immovable, impenetrable, impassable barriers blocking us from living God’s purpose for us can easily be removed — not by imagining them gone, as some might teach, but by believing that He can move them when we exercise our itsy bitsy amount of faith simply by asking Him.
This wonderful privilege, my friends, is part of our inheritance in Jesus!
